At Castaways Resort, we always look cherish the opportunity to host guests of Number 8 Tours. Our team is grateful for the kind words, wisdom, and positive energy shared by our senior visitors, and we take great pride in ensuring their stay is both comfortable and memorable.
During a recent visit, our Marketing Coordinator, Daria Varennikova, had the pleasure of joining the group for part of their journey, including a delightful high tea experience aboard the vintage Glenbrook Railway. This charming excursion was made even more special with historical insights from Bill Deed, a third-generation Waiuku local whose knowledge of the area is truly unmatched.
Hearing glowing feedback about Castaways Resort - from the breathtaking location and exceptional team to the delicious meals and stunning sunsets - was truly heartwarming!

We are proud to continue our partnership with Number 8 Tours and look forward to welcoming their guests not only at Castaways Resort but also across our 15 Marsden Hotel Group properties throughout New Zealand. No matter the location, we remain dedicated to providing exceptional service and memorable experiences for every traveller.

You can really feel the pride in hosting these repeat visits — it’s not just “beds and breakfast,” it’s the whole experience with people, place, and a bit of history layered in. I also like that you called out the staff specifically; that’s usually what makes group travel go smoothly. Reading this while packing for a trip had me thinking about outfits for high tea — I was messing around on StyleLookLab and realized I always overpack when there’s even one “dressier” stop on the itinerary.
The part about “kind words, wisdom, and positive energy” rang true — you can usually tell when a place actually enjoys hosting a particular group rather than just accommodating them. Also, sunsets + good meals is a pretty unbeatable combo if the weather cooperates. Totally unrelated, but the “stunning views” bit made me think of that Ghibli-style photo filter trend where everything looks extra dreamy; the west coast at golden hour already has that vibe in real life.
The partnership angle is interesting — it sounds like you’ve figured out how to make recurring tour groups feel welcomed without it becoming repetitive for the team. The high tea on the Glenbrook Railway plus local storytelling is exactly the kind of “small extra” that people remember and mention to friends. Side note, the way you talk about sharing experiences across properties reminds me of how directories organize things — I bumped into where to submit ai tool listings recently and it had that same “collect and surface the good stuff” feel.
The detail about Daria joining for part of the journey makes it feel a lot more “hosted” than just a standard resort stay, and the Glenbrook Railway piece sounds genuinely charming. I’m curious how tight the schedule usually is for these tours — like, are guests doing lots of short activities, or is there real downtime at the resort? When I’m planning packed days I end up doing time math with stuff like a playback time calculator, just to keep myself honest about what actually fits.
That vintage railway high tea sounds like one of those experiences people keep talking about long after the trip — especially with someone local adding the history as you go. It also jumped out how much effort you put into making group stays feel personal, not cookie-cutter. Funny side thought: the “trying to beat your last run” vibe is a bit like playing blockblast puzzle game online, except here the high score is a great sunset and a good meal.
